Welcome to Le Pays de la Sagouine
What is Le Pays de la Sagouine?
Siteweb 009As one of the world's largest Acadian performing arts employer, Le Pays de la Sagouine is a charitable cultural organization and gateway to the world as an ambassador of l'Acadie. A tribute to its renowned creator-author Antonine Maillet, Le Pays de la Sagouine represents the ultimate pride and origin of a nation's inspiration: La
Sagouine. Le Pays de la Sagouine, as gatekeeper of our stories, legends, traditions, and Joie de vivre, ensures that our rich culture and folklore is carried over to the next generation through all forms of art and entertainment, as well as being the largest platform to showcase and develop the local performing arts.

La Sagouine, our author's most celebrated character, is an intuitive washerwoman with no education who speaks the truth; she is the daring voice of the voiceless which is considered the voice of the Acadian people. La Sagouine's phenomenon in the 1970's will help shape the identity of a language with its cultural baggage and wake the pride of most Acadians. Understanding La Sagouine's phenomenon will also help visitors better understand the importance of Le Pays de la Sagouine and to celebrate the Acadian culture.

Located on a small island in the Town of Bouctouche, New Brunswick, Le Pays de la Sagouine is an eclectic reproduction of an Acadian village inspired by the town's very own distinguished novelist, Antonine Maillet, and her most celebrated character, La Sagouine. The living village comes alive each summer with theatre, music, comedy, and dance, allowing visitors to discover not only the tales of the Acadian heroine, La Sagouine, but also the unique Acadian culture of the region.

Le Pays is the island where Acadians celebrate. A cast of characters speak a colourful language rooted in Acadian culture: a true Acadian experience including music, dancing and the Acadian culture.
