When the character La Sagouine was created in 1971, she instantly became a larger-than-life phenomenon. As a play, La Sagouine has been performed in French and English across Canada and throughout Francophone Europe. Antonine Maillet's poetic, salty words shed light onto an entire people, the Acadians, while through the voice and performance of the incomparable Viola Léger, La Sagouine cuts across borders and cultures of all kinds.
